which networking brand do you prefer?

There are loads of brands that pretty much all do the same thing in my experience

What are you after specificly? Or is it just a thread to gauge what people use themselves?

Cisco pix hardware firewall.
Cisco managed switch
5x servers / Mail server, file server, PDC, BDC Internet server (isa)
Ms isa server with 3 nics ( wan , lan , dmz ) on gateway behind router
Belking 54g (or 11g

if you like ) wap
2 belkin wireless cards one pci with ext ant one pcmcia for laptop 54g 11g
IDS shell on pix firewall - sending to internal syslog server
Kerio personal firewall on each client for aplication level control

Cisco kicks bottom !!!

AND -- Nearly all of it payed for by work

I would also recommend Cisco or 3Com if you can afford it.
We supply it to all our big companies because it is so reliable.

to be honest ive happily used dlink netgear usrobotics cisco/linksys and belkin and ive had the same amount of grief from all makes

it seems routers etc these days just dont like being updated with latest firmware and spend their whole lifes restarting or soem other bug i had a new linksys that didnt have any web interface and ive had netgears that couldnt get a connection on dsl but a dlink could...of course the dlink then overheated

anyway after about 5 years of buying networking gear and returning it id say Netgear cheap and cheerful

so im not to fussed when they cock up (which they will)

Hmpf Jealeous now.. I thought I had a good home set up with my surestack hub and 2003 server.. me want more kit.

On another note, if people think routers are unreliable, why dont people, put there old windows 98 machine to good use and have that running ICS under the stairs or something.. surley wouldnt cost much more than a router to run, and you can simply restart it when it goes wrong...

Sorry m8 - I dont know why people dont do this. I have found most of these home routers are unstable......
