Hi/question about email hijack

Hi

Sorry to jump in like this, seeing as I've just joined. (I was a member a while ago, but couldn't remember my details.) My ebay account was hijacked last weekend - thankfully ebay sorted it out straightaway - but yesterday while I was using Outlook, all my inbox messages vanished, and weren't in deleted items or anywhere else. Also nearly all the rules I'd set up have gone.

I changed my password on the ntl site, but am thinking it may be best to change the whole lot again, including username, and that I'll also have to change any email accounts that I forward to this email address. Someone said to me that when I change my ntl details, the person who hacked my ebay account and therefore knows my emails, could be sent notification of my new details ... is that so? It's a long time since I've changed my main password, so I can't recall if a confirmation email was sent. I haven't received one today, after changing my password last night.

As far as I remember they do send you a email confirming it. It may be better to call NTL and ask for there help.

If you're using Outlook, they've probably all been Archived - look for the Folders that contain old mail it might be called Autoarchive - check Options for the settings and folder names.

Hi Okonski, thanks for advice. It was 1 or 2-day old messages too (I had a 7-day setting on archiving), and there isn't any archive.pst, so I have no idea where any archived messages have gone, if that is what has happened. The only pst file I can open within Outlook from the archive location brings up a calendar page. The other file is called 'extend' and won't open.

Curious! If outlook d/ls them from NTL's server, they've gotta be somewhere - unless you happen to have 2 outlook PST files and you're looking at the wrong one? Good luck anyway!

Thanks. I searched for all pst files and none came up, nor manually too. I'm still concerned whoever hijacked my ebay account is changing settings within Outlook, so I think it's best I change my ntl username and password.

No one (even someone who knows you e-mail username and password) can change your outlook settings, that runs on your local pc, they would have to hack into your actual pc and logon as you to do that, and anyone doing that is unlikely to waste time just messing with your outlook settings.

People elsewhere have been telling me different scenarios that are possible, so I thought posting here would be more direct. I haven't had my ebay account hacked before, or this weird stuff with Outlook, which is happening for the first time only after the ebay hacking. When my ebay account was hacked, I was advised by ebay to change my email password, as well as ebay details. Unfortunately I delayed changing my email password, as I thought there was no way it would really be necessary to do, for the reasons you're saying. But, people can get hold of all kinds of information via emails, including links to sites that hold personal details, survey earnings etc. And I haven't received the ntl email confirming my password change, so am concerned as to where that's gone, and where my archived messages are being stored ... they're nowhere to be found.

You can acces all your ntl accounts via webmail, here is the link (you just need username and password - the ones used when you setup the account - ie the ones you entered into outlook express).

Loads of options on that page,you can change passwords too
