Timeouts and Disconnects - Router or Line?

Ok. Bear with me on this one. I am having problems with my Internet connection in my student house. We are on PIPEX. We have sporadic timeouts that cause MSN to disconnect and in worse cases the Internet to stop working. Sometimes one web service will work while the other doesn’t and sometimes nothing works. In the evenings the timeouts occur closer together and last longer.

- It happens on all computers in the house. 3 Windows XP computers and a Mac.
- It gets worse in evenings.
- At one point during a prolonged cut-out we could not even connect to the router settings. Despite the signal strength being strong on all computers.
- The signal strength is always high.
- The SNR is usually around 3 to 6
- Just now when we had another cutout I reset the router, did not work, then I put a cable into the router and my laptop and the connection worked almost instantly. Then I took the cable out and changed site, didn’t work, I checked another site and it worked. So that could just be a coincidence
- I one point I was downloading and for 1 or 2 minutes the download speed jumped to around 200kbs. Then it cut out.


Is the problem with the router or the line.
