Motorola SurfBoard 4100
I have the above Modem, which over the years has proved very reliable.
My question is, as its quite old, is it holding me back at all, and is it likely to cause a bottleneck? I have the 10Mb service, and plan on stayin on the top speeds as they roll out.
Thanks in advance for your time and trouble.

Re: Motorola SurfBoard 4100
I also have a SB4100 and it copes no problem with the 10mbit service - its often the router or connected via USb that Will 100% Def slow you down. Are you asking if it will still cope if faster speed will come out?? I am sure if NTL roll out faster speeds - they will also supply the right Kit to do so.

Re: Motorola SurfBoard 4100
Cheers Mauldor.
Its coping with 10Mb admirably. I was just wondering if it will deal with faster.
Its a great Modem, and I dint want to get rid of it, so I hope it is able to cope.

Re: Motorola SurfBoard 4100
I *Think* It should be able to cope with 48Mbit Download and 8Mbit Upload off the top of my head, all depends on what NTL Bring out I guess. Its so old that Modem that Tech "Forgot" they Support it on one call I did - lol..

I was told yesterday by Tech Support the SB4100 will only go up to around 2.25mb. Thus they are coming out next week to change it.
Checking on Motorola's site confirms this is correct.
Therefore, I'm surprised you are getting 10mb speeds.

Re: Motorola SurfBoard 4100
The 4100 can manage 10meg and more, i dont know what theyre going on about (apparently nor do they ) The only thing that might hold it back would be is if you were connecting it via USB, but its the same for every Modem

Re: Motorola SurfBoard 4100
Still got mine, working fine on 4mbit!
A lightning strike fried the USB port though a few years ago so now I can only connect via the much more reliable Ethernet, nice one God

Re: Motorola SurfBoard 4100
Dont let them take your 4100. They are a great piece of kit as I said earlier. That can deal with 10Mb and beyond, and do so admirably.
When I wrote the above, it was an off day I think, and speeds were slow. I wasnt sure if it was the modem or not. It wasnt, and I would not get rid of it if they offered to buy it off me. It a quality gadget, and the new offerings look cheap and tacky in comparison.
