iTrip could be legalised
BBC
Quote:
Ofcom has said it is working with other regulators to draft an EU-wide standard on the use of a gadget which plays the output of Apple's iPods on FM radios.
Using an iTrip is banned in Britain as its low-power transmissions can, in theory, interfere with legal stations.
However, the device and other similar accessories for MP3 players are widely available to purchase online.
The Liberal Democrats have said Ofcom "must provide compelling evidence" to explain why they remain outlawed.
The Wireless Telegraphy Act of 1949 forbids the use of radio equipment without a licence or an exemption.
However, the party's shadow culture secretary Don Foster said it was "ridiculous that 1940s legislation is preventing the iPod generation from enjoying their music using the latest gadgets".

Not that anyone here uses an illegal iTrip

I don't, but i know of them being purchased... Hell, even know people still use them, the station can't even be picked up outside of the car with the adaptor i've seen. How does that interfere?

I know a few people running them to the fake "TAPE" as well, you know, the one that goes in the headphone port of the iPod and then has a fake cassette on the end? They work a treat too Just keep the iPod's output down and aplify with the cars speakers to keep decent quality.

Re: iTrip could be legalised
well thats good news, I use one of those Tape->3.5mm gadgets that you get in most "in-car CD Player" kits to which I can connect an Ipod, Sony PSP, CD Player, and anything else with an Earphone jack

Now i find both iTrip type radio things and especially the cassette ones introduce a slight hum/hiss on the background - and it's not the device because my PC and Hifi sound fine with the device in the same way - a noise i find incredibly distracting when listening.
What I do think is that Cd / tape players in cars should have line in (3.5 mm minijack or 2xRCA) on them.

Re: iTrip could be legalised
Many Tape/CD players do have an RCA in on the back but obviously once its in situe, it's very difficult to get to.
