Re: Forget HD DVD and BluRay!

Maybe we should abandon buying technology....there is always something better round the corner.
I for one never buy straight away. It's like all these HD Ready TV's.....I'm sure in a few years they will be even better.

Re: Forget HD DVD and BluRay!

The problem is that, for the average home user, HVD is so large, it's effectively pointless. Most people use DVDs for movies. Even with Hi Def, most people will be happy with the compressed picture that they get from Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. The same comments apply equally for both home movies and pre-recorded movies

Similarly, there are only a few applications that could use that amount of space, that I can think of..

The most important one is backup. Sadly, most people won't bother with this, and even if they did, it's not a good idea to have everything stored on one disk..

The other posibility I came up with was as storage for a media centre server.

I am not saying it won't take off. I can't say that, I don't know it won't. I am just saying that it has limited use in the home.
