USB Keyboard Help, Please.
Hi Everyone,
I've just purchased a Dell 9150, and when i try to install XP the keyboard wont work on installation.
The keyboard works fine in the bios, but when it gets to the "press Enter to install" the keyboard light goes out and will not work. there are no ps2 ports on the machine either so i'm a bit stumped and was wondering if anyone has come across this before or can offer any advise.
Thankyou in advance.

Re: USB Keyboard Help, Please.
I use a USB keyboard and as long as I have the "Enable USB Support" (or something along those lines) option enabled in my BIOS then it works fine. XP has USB support by default, so unless your keyboard requires specific drivers which aren't installed yet, then I'm not sure what's causing it.
You can get a USB -> PS2 adapter cheaply enough (I've got a spare one here)... could always try that if all else fails.

He has no PS2 ports though Gareth.

Do you have USB legacy support enabled in the bios ? (probably a stupid idea really, as you can already access the bios, but worth a try lol)

Marky, What do you mean "jumper cmos", I know a bit, but then a bit is often dangerous, so please take it easy in the techy talk, cheers

Re: USB Keyboard Help, Please.
have you tried the keyboard in a different USB port?
Also have you called DELL support - they can talk you through stuff over the phone.... depends what warranty you bought i suppose....
failing that on bootup hit F2 to enter the setupo and as Gareth said look for the setting relating to legacy support for USB - i think it's under the peripherals settings bit... make sure it is set to 'on' or 'enable'
ps i assume it is a wired keyboard - not wireless?

Its a way of resetting the mobo, if you dont know how dont try
But the others are right anyway, but if you cant find the usb setting i'm not sure if it will work but in bios try loading setup defaults then save and exit

Re: USB Keyboard Help, Please.
Hi Tightscot, Right: It's got 7 usb ports- all tried, yes it's wired, USB controller in the bios is enabled, and it's second hand but i've got a years warranty, but because it's me it normally is an easy fix.
