BBC, eBay, Amazon etc... not working

Hi this is my first post here, I am in the luton area for ntl and I am getting crap connection basicly with sites like the above not working. Is anyone else expirencing this tonight or are there any work arrounds? I once heard that you could change your proxy or something but I have been un able to find the page that said that.
