WRT300N vs WRT54GS

Im thinking of going to PC World tommorow and picking up the WRT54GS, (as I was ment to do this over a week ago), but after doing some research I found Linksys are soon to bring the WRT300N out which uses 802.11n and boasts "Up To 4X the Range and 12X the Speed!" ?

linky linky

Given the fact this is the USA Linksys site, is it worth me holding out for the newer model, or is this adsl only... I dont want to buy the WRT54GS and have a newer model come out in less then a few weeks. Id like to think its going to last as long as my loyal BEFSR41.

tia...

Re: WRT300N vs WRT54GS

There will always be something new and better coming out, that's the way technology goes these days. Just have a look at your system (unless it is absolutely brand new) but I bet in some areas there are better parts available now.

When will you ever need that much range on wireless and speed?? Home net connections are not faster than 24mbit at the min and do you live in buckingham palace?!?

The WRT54G/S is a perfectly good router for home use. Easy to configure and manage and if you want to dable a bit further, you can flash the firmware and install new software.

Also depends on the link to the outside world; if you only have 4 or 10mb, unless you are doing HUGE file transfers intra-network, what do you need the speed for (could be having a LAN party, I suppose ) ?
