Curious about a laptop

Hi all.

I am thinking of suprising the gf with a laptop for her 21sts which I know she is after one.

She wants to be able to use the net on wireless, play dvd's, and use msn/yahoo with webcam no problem. gaming is a side issue as she just uses my pc for that.

I am looking for one under the £400 mark with a centrino cpu if possible although I bet I could get her to have a celeron M if it would help costs.

I know I am pushing it, also those laptops with the shiny screens would be prefered she really seems to like those.

I dont mind buying it online for the maker to be honest but online would be best as it would be a good suprise for her.

Re: Curious about a laptop

Those "Shiney" screens are called Brightview and push the price up quite a lot. For £400 I recommend you check Dell and possibly Aria or Novatech and as a last resort, Woolworths do some Celeron M Laptops that are very capable. Made by Medion I think - my girlfriend has one.

Thank You Zeph, I have thought about a Dell but I know she has spotted a Packard Bell laptop for £599 she likes, but it's a touch out of my reach

Tesco have an Acer in at the moment for around £385 I think, not sure on spec but might be worth a look.

Re: Curious about a laptop

Yeah there no wireless though but it does have mini pci so you can add one easy for 15 quid add 256 ram for 13 quid and you have a fair laptop. The viewing angle isnt brilliant but thats all thats wrong with it for the money

Re: Curious about a laptop

Dell's bank holiday "special" has, amongst others a 1.6ghz, 512ram, 80hdd,wireless,15.4widescreen, dvdrw, XP home installed, for about 450? Sounds pretty reasonable to me.
