1MB Update...
I'm a 1MB customer, does anyone know when or if they will be performing speed upgrades on the 1MB package?

Re: 1MB Update...
I haven't heard any reports of 1mb beening upgraded, but considering Telewest only offer 2,4 and 10mbit tarrifs i guess it's possible to bring everything into line.

Possibly a fair guess, but still a guess sadly! I'm sure upgrades will happen for "one megabits per second" (that's 1Mb or 1Mbps, not 1MB which is eight times more ) customers at some stage. (It's not that long since we were all on 150kbps downstream!)

Re: 1MB Update...
Problem, if they offered an upgrade to the 1Mbit speed, those "in the know" would be wanting to get switched from 1 Mbit-MAX PACE STBs to Samsungs or cable modem.
Maybe the 1Mbit speed is looking a little slack against the march of 8Mbit (if possible) ADSL, but the "unlimited" tariff, even with whatever passes for "fair use" is certainly prefable (to me at least), than *Mbit max and a thimbleful of quota.
The lowest tariff needs to have some disadvantage, be it speed or quota.
PS. 150k ? - I can remember 128k (and dialup) - and being glad it was through the STB, as that made it 128k x 2 streams - and I ALWAYS double-streamed my downloads.

Yes, when we first got NTL broadband the £17.99 tariff was 150kbps - was probably 128k before that. Then it went to 300kbps, now 1Mbps.

Re: 1MB Update...
Rung ntl today asking if 1mb are going to get upgrades to higher speeds in future and apparently they are going to upgrade 1mb > 2mb...they will start doing this end of next month as they are working on the config files which they need to send out to our modems hope this helped..

That will be handy for me. As i'm on 1mb. I presume it will be the same price as now.

Re: 1MB Update...
Any idea if upload will be updated too? Infact, someone mind explaining to me why the upload rates are so bad in the first place?

If 1Mbps is upgraded to 2Mbps, it'll probably have the upstream upped to 200kbps. The plain and simply reason why it's only 100kbps at the moment is because NTL want you to pay more than £17.99!

As reported over on Chetnet, there are a couple of posts apparently from a member of NTL internet product group on the ntl newsgroup ntl.discussion.broadband indicating that an upgrade is in preparation.
Have a look yourselves (ntl customers only) the thread is "Subject: NTL 1Mb charges same as Telewest 2Mb"
The post appears to come from at least an ntl business customer whose machine has name:
dalglish.cableinet.net
Perhaps someone from cf could check directly with the poster. It is some time since ntl officially vacated the newsgroups so don't get him into trouble!
