DO WE NEED ONE to protect our modems and PC.

It couldn't hurt? I've personally never had one myself, seeing they're coming down a lot in price, I may well do so soon.

I know people who's PC's went up in smoke when the transformer down the road got hit by a lightening strike.

So i'd say YES get one, not much more expensive than the 4 gang extension lead your probably already using

which one do we need for telewest modems. do they have to be specific and whats a good one available within the market now. also where can i buy one.

Get a normal surge protector for the power cable (or a UPS if you're really worried), but you shouldn't need to worry about the data cable because the cable all runs underground so shouldn't be hit by lightening.
