Linksys Wrt54gs Setting Up Probs On Ntl
 Hi,
I am a in need of some help, I am trying to set up a wireless network from a pc to a laptop with a LINKSYS WRT54GS router bought from PC World, we were originaly sold an adsl router that would only work with BT wasted many hours till they told us to return it for the Cable version. , the pc isnt wi fi onboard, but the lappy is.
I spent all day yesterday trying to get it working without much luck, I have read some posts that say to connect it to the pc to configure it for wirelsss.
I followed the set up cd to the letter, and all the lights were on that were supposed to be, it connected once, then not again.
I had the modem connected to the router, and the router to the pc, internet was on pc fine, but the lappy just wasnt picking up the router, when i searched for networks it had Welby in the list, LINKSYS came up onece but it wouldnt connect to it
I basically need a easy step by step way of doing it.
cheers for any help

Re: Linksys Wrt54gs Setting Up Probs On Ntl
Assuming you are using Win Xp on the Laptop, have you got SP2 loaded?
Linksys by default enable WPA security, which works best with SP2.
If you go into the Wireless security setup screen (browse on the PC to the Linksys web admin pages), it should give you the key for WPA. You should also check that the SSID isn't hidden.
On the laptop, if you 'view available wireless networks' you should see the linksys network (as a security enabled network) and when you try to connect to it it should ask for the network key (from the admin pages). If not, what does happen when you try to connect?
 to CF, btw

Re: Linksys Wrt54gs Setting Up Probs On Ntl
Thanks for the quick response,
I was doing the set up for a mate at their house, after spending all day trying I came home, head spinning, and have come on here to try and pick peoples brains, I can build a pc, but this networking is a bit above me, so forgive me if I dont quite grasp all the terms.
Yes both the pc and the lappy are running XP SP2, the laptop had SP 1 on it, when we took it to PC World, he pressed a button on it , and it picked up the instore newtowrks n/p, and he told me to get SP2 on it, which I did soon as we got back with it, all I did was follow the set up cd to the letter, and the first time It worked n/p, they took the laptop downstairs and the back upstairs and it lost the connection.
In network connections on the laptop, there was the mini card, the lan, and a bridge, all these three were in bridged connection section.
When I viewed the available networks, there was Welby, linksys was there once then didnt show up any more.
I will be going back round later this week to try and solve it, just cant get em head around some of the terms.
When I phoned PC World they said it needed to be set up for wired first then configured for wireless, which confued me even more :Z.

Re: Linksys Wrt54gs Setting Up Probs On Ntl
I had problems with a cheap wlan card a while back - one minute it would connect, next it knew nothing about the router. Turned out to be a driver issue and the only way I got around it was to 'repair' the XP installation from my XP disk and reinstall the drivers.
