Re: not sure

512k is the size of the test file that is used to determine the connection speed - what does it say for the average speed, when you run it?

Re: not sure

Hi, the '512k' refers to the size of data used in the speed test. You are more interested in the final average at the bottom, eg:
Quote:
1st 512K took 2823 ms = 181.4 KB/sec, approx 1495 Kbps, 1.46 Mbps
2nd 512K took 4275 ms = 119.8 KB/sec, approx 987 Kbps, 0.96 Mbps
3rd 512K took 2653 ms = 193 KB/sec, approx 1590 Kbps, 1.55 Mbps
4th 512K took 961 ms = 532.8 KB/sec, approx 4390 Kbps, 4.29 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 2116 Kbps, 2.07 Mbps
(Note - this test was from work!)

Slow browsing could be due to a dodgy proxy server, in which case following the instructions here may help.
Post the full results of a speed test first.

0.75 Mbps is not too bad on a 1Mb line. I would have a look at the proxy instructions above.

3rd 512k took 5953 ms = 86 KB/sec, approx 709 Kbps, 0.69 Mbps
4th 512k took 4782 ms = 107.1 KB/sec, approx 883 Kbps, 0.86 Mbps

Re: not sure

on my 1mb i am currently getting this:

Wed, 12 Apr 2006 12:12:59 UTC

1st 512K took 4250 ms = 120.5 KB/sec, approx 993 Kbps, 0.97 Mbps
2nd 512K took 4468 ms = 114.6 KB/sec, approx 944 Kbps, 0.92 Mbps
3rd 512K took 4407 ms = 116.2 KB/sec, approx 957 Kbps, 0.93 Mbps
4th 512K took 4343 ms = 117.9 KB/sec, approx 971 Kbps, 0.95 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 966 Kbps, 0.94 Mbps

tbh this is slightly slower than usual...... its around 0.96-0.97Mbps,but cant really complain!

i do think there is something wrong at ur end!

any that are 'geographically' close, will do - a more up to date list is available here

Nottingham proxies usually work quite well ...
