Changes in Leeds
They've been fiddling overnight in Leeds - server status page confirms it. Got up this morning - no connection. Rebooted the modem and renewed my IP lease - new IP address with the looks of it. Also new UBR address too - adjusted firewall settings accordingly.
Just a heads up

Re: Changes in Leeds
How do you renew the IP address etc? My BB (in Leeds) has been fluctual since Monday and it's been constantly out now for over 24 hours. I haven't rang CS because, apart from being useless, I only have a PAYG mobile and would run out of money before it's even answered. I have done everything, switched off the modem et al, but I know there's a modem page you can go to and alter settings; is that what you guys did to reinitialise you connections because it's rather annoying having no internet when you need it for uni work.

 to the site.
You have in essence renewed you IP if you have restarted the modem and your pc.
The other way to do it is
Running XP go to run type-cmd on the black screen type-ipconfig
note the IP address it should look like 123.45.678.123 or a mixture of 2/3 numbers.
Now type-ipconfig /release
this should give you a 0.0.0.0 IP
then type-ipconfig /renew
this should give either a new IP or the same as you started with.

Hi
there aren't actually any settings that you can alter in your cable modem, certainly not to alter your IP address. (I believe you can alter the upstream channel on some of the older models, but that is all). The reason the posters above had theirs change was due to work NTL had been doing on the network.
If yours won't go on-line after a full re-boot of your modem & pc, then you'll have to call faults, I'm afraid, sorry.
<edit> after you've tried the release/renew advised by SLM

Re: Changes in Leeds
Ah, I have a new ip too, I just checked. My connection died at 3:11am and I had to switch off the set top box for 30 sec and restart it, then everything was fine.
One thing I noticed was that when I look at my DUMeter to monitor my downloads/uploads, before last night there was always a tiny bit of activity in red (download), I assumed it was essential internet communication or something, but now it's not doing it. Before, with this little bit of activity the DUMeter logo in my toolbar was green, but now it's red (no activity) which is kindof disconcerting as in the past, when it was red it meant my net connection had died. It was more reassuring when it stayed green. Does anyone know what this small amount of download activity was, and why changing my ip would stop it from doing it?

Re: Changes in Leeds
Cheers guys
I rang NTL CS - well I got someone to ring for me from a landline - they checked the modem at their end and said it was malfunctioning; no response etc. Which I was rather perplexed about as the connection, at least for the first few days, was never constantly dead, it was merely fluctual. Anyway, I arrange a technician to come around in a couple of days, put the phone down and come back to my PC and surprisingly the modem is back on and the internet is working again. I think I'll have the engineer come around regardless because after being told the modem was knackered, it's a tad strange.
