For technical positions ntl have always been bad payers, for this reason the good engineers with ambition and young enough to make the move have generally left the company.
Many people took these jobs with ntl because it was a reasonably stress free job working with good collegues, even if a little underpaid. As soon as the screws were tightened, people started being flogged to work and perks were removed many good ones left.
It's a shame, because considering all the redundancies in the region I used to work in, some of the weakest employees during that time are still there.
ntl overpaid...... only some of the shiny ar*ed ones sat in offices!

Re: NTL Careers
I have been made redundant many times, no big deal, you just get another cr@ppy job and if there is nothing in your field available you do something completely new. In my experience there are only two options available, you either take the easy route and work for morons until the time comes they want rid of you, or you bite the bullet and work for yourself, both routes have advantages and disadvantages but if you are working for yourself you have total control, which again can be a good or bad thing.
Never look over your shoulder, forget where you have been and concentrate where you are headed, life will go on regardless.

HA, HA, LOL, It's getting near the redundance time again, "take your job by the hand for the redundance, thank you".
See the thing is will they spring it on us before christmas? or just after christmas, 'cause they feel better that way.

I know ntl don't pay the Contact Centre guys that much, but have you seen some of the cars in the carparks at some of the sites?
There are loads of lotuses and mercedes at Crawley Court - and at the Newport office I've counted Audi S3s, Honda S2000s and even a new BMW M3 (registration plate HAX?) - these people are technical admins iirc.

Yes agreed, a look around the carpark at Crawley court and Hook was a different story, but many of these so-called technical people had no hands on experience at all. ntl has always been a fairly good payer for project managers, program managers and people producing statistics, the technical workers keeping the systems running and dealing face to face with customers have always been a different story.
