Changing a dialup ISP with Win 98

I know we're back in the Stone Age here, but I have recklessly agreed to help a relative change from Tiscali pay-as-you-go Dialup to Wanadoo on a Win 98 PC.

I'm loathe to stick the Wanadoo installation disk in her PC on the grounds that I want to keep as much control of the process as possible (my bitter experience with ntl's broadband installation disk has convinced me never to put your PC under any ISP's complete control if you have a choice).

So, what I would like to do is register from the Wanadoo site. Obviously, I need to keep the Tiscali connection going in order to do this. What will happen after I entered the registration details for Wanadoo. If I go to the MS Dialup Networking wizard will I find both Tiscali and Wanadoo there and simply change the default ISP, or will there be some sort of horrible clash?

You usually have the option to manually configure the dialup connnection. When I've setup up dialup PC's in the past if prefer to do it myself rather than let Tiscali/Wanadoo do it for me.
Once you have the second connection ready, you can just change the connection settings in IE and/or OE to point to the new ISP. And delete the desktop shortcut to tiscali , if there is one.

Thanks.

Re your first sentence, are you referring to the installation disc method or doing it via a visit to the Wanado site?

I shall take courage from your final paragraph which suggests that nothing horrible will occur if I press ahead.

Re: Changing a dialup ISP with Win 98

I meant joining via the website and then manually setting it up. The info in Tuftus' link should give you some pointers, althought on W98 things will be slightly different!

This Win95 dial-up guide may also help, but basically you just need to run the Make New Connection Wizard and provide the Wanadoo phone number.

Re: Changing a dialup ISP with Win 98

Register with Wanadoo online and make a note of the username and password you provide. Open Network Connections and then the New Connection Wizard.

Insert your username and password when prompted and a new connection icon for Wanadoo will appear. The phone number to use will probably be one of these:

0845 079 6699
0844 056 4000
