Recording digital TV whilst watching terrestrial TV

I understand that it is possible to record a digital TV programme whilst watching a terrestrial channel. How exactly do you do this; for example do you need any particular set of wiring interconnections?

Re: Recording digital TV whilst watching terrestrial TV

You'll need an analogue bypass or terrestrial aerial, in addition to the STB output.

Connect up the STB to the VCR and TV with scart leads. Connect a coaxial between the STB, VCR and TV too (with terrestrial aerial into the STB if thats how you get the terrestrial signal).

Then you record or watch the STB output using the AV (scart), whilst viewing or alternately viewing the terrestrial by tuning to the normal RF frequency ch 1, 2, 3 etc.

This is my current wiring setup, which looks to me a little different from what you suggest. Do I need to modify it?

Re: Recording digital TV whilst watching terrestrial TV

That looks ok to me except I woudn't bother plugging the aerial into the STB but rather plug it directly into the RF in socket on your DVD recorder. Since your signal is getting to the TV from the STB via scard you can cut out an unnecessary cable and connection

Re: Recording digital TV whilst watching terrestrial TV

Hmmm... is it possible to feed a PVR (freeview tuner inside) from the bypass of an NTL digital box then?

I tried it with my analogue box and got no digital terrestrial signals at all, but the analogue signals do appear.

No, NTL do not broadcast any Freeview signals.

You should just be able to record the NTL signal via the Scart and watch an analogue signal on your TV via the aerial.
