Mac Question
Now I have not seen this system yet, but I am told it came from a school has usb ports and is a tower and monitor styled MAC from yr2000.
Now it has no OS installed on it, and the current owner would like to put it online for email and browsing.
IS this even possible? I've no information on mac's.

Re: Mac Question

Re: Mac Question
The lack of OS shouldn't be a problem: many Linux distros such as Ubuntu and Fedora have PPC versions when can be installed on any G3 or above.
Or you could, ahem, "borrow" an OS X installation CD if you know anyone who has one....

Re: Mac Question
That is just it, I think they would prefer to go onto a MAC OS, but with me not seeing this machine yet, nor them knowing enough about it, makes it harder for me as this is the first MAC I have become involved with.
Although I have always had a temptation to get a E-mac...
How much are MAC OS's and where do you get them, also could ntl bb be a simple installation if there mac like they say to me has USB capabiltiy?

Re: Mac Question
To get the mac on the network I would use the ethernet connection...all macs have ethernet. It is then as simple as setting up a PC using ethernet.
As for the OS, could try getting it from here:

Probably best of waiting until you get your hands on it though before buying the OS - just to make sure that it will work with OSX, I have an old G4 (2001) that works fine with OSX - it just needs lot of RAM...

Re: Mac Question
Hmm well I am seeing his gf later in the morning, and am going to see on a deal, if it is a g3/g4 and worth the work I may buy it off them cheaply and help them source a Windows PC, and work on it myself.
