Can Dect phones affect Cable Modems?

Does DECT affect cable modems? Seems like ever since I had one installed... my internet randomly cuts out for a second or so.

Re: Dect?

Depends on how you mean (frequency, wires ...etc) but, I guess not.

I've had a DECT phone for years and it's in close proximity to my modem (ntl:250), all the wires are intermingled under my bureau inc. electrical cables and my connection operates with no problem.

Obviously DECT phone use frequencies and as CM have sensitive components inside, so it is possible but, nothing I've noticed given my set-up.

Kind regards

Thread title changed, as it looked like this thread was a query about phones (not cable modems).

hjf: How is your PC attached to the Cable Modem? Directly? Through a router?

If through a router, is the PC connected wirelessly to the router?

They can do, you can see DECT interference on return paths.

Shows up nicely around the 50MHz mark

If you're connected wirelessly through your set top box or a wireless router, then thats probably where the problem is - they use the same frequencies so could well interfere.

Re: Can Dect phones affect Cable Modems?

Yes quite easily but many of them will probably need a little coaxing
There's a couple of ways but probably the simplest is to put a 12 dB tap in line with the tap leg connected to their meter. Use MSN or something similar to create a large upload to a friend, check the frequency and level of the u/s carrier then make a call on the phone and see if it affects the carrier. Not difficult but can be a bit fiddly to do. Any of the service techs should be capable of driving their test meter in such a way as to be able to make sense of what it will tell them.

Re: Can Dect phones affect Cable Modems?

Well I dont wanna call an engineer out if possible but ever since we did get a DECT phone - my internet suffers random disconnections for a split fraction of a second - whether its ringing or not.

Maybe its a coincidence but looks like a tech support call is coming :/
