battle of the ages
sweden is to change its marriage laws that currently allow 15 year olds to get married the proposed law will only allow marriages for 18 and over this includes anyone regradless of nationality
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3267727.stm
i think its a sensible idea in my view 15 is too young to marry they are still children and still have alot to learn about relationships

oh the suspense!
I say the age should be 18, 15 is way too young. I agree with kronas on this.

Re: battle of the ages
I know someone who got married at 16 and is still happily married almost 35 years later. Mind you, she was a grandmother at the age of 38
It's difficult to make generalisations, but if I had to I would agree that 18 is better than 15!

yes im not generalising either but i still think 18 is old enough if you have not grown up (mentally) then that is your problem

Re: battle of the ages
15 is way too young to get married....sometimes i think 18 is too young also.....if i look at all the 18year olds i know who got married, they got divorced ..some after only a few years others when they were in their forties...
im not saying it will happen in all cases, but this is what i have experienced

Re: battle of the ages
Some marriages at this age MIGHT survive but I reckon that the majority would not. After all how many of us are the same people we were at 15?I know I feel like I'm 17 inside but I know darn well that I'm nothing like the person I was at 17.
I can't help thinking that it would be better to offer a good sex education, free contraception and let them(15) have a sexual relationships rather than have them get married, have kids and then get divorced.
Incog.

u can get free contraception from the family planning clinic, there is normally one in every town etc.....
and they are trying to think of ways to improve sex ed, i.e. the ripple programme aka peer led sex ed....
and i dont think we should encourage kids to be having sex...

Re: battle of the ages
of course not bexy.however i'd rather they practised safe sex than get married at 15,which hopefuly will never happen here because we have too much common sense.

education at an early age is the key to sucess but some parents or governers boards will not allow certain issues to be addressed in classes for the fear of encouraging kids to have safe sex inadvertantly ofcourse

agreed but ignoring safety issues and not addressing them properly in schools is why teenage pregnances are high in the uk

1. i disagree, my local f.p clinic is in the local doctors surgery....you can find them also in the yello pages
2. when i was 18, i took part in the ripple programme, basically, a group of us were trained to teach on matters of contraceptive and other things, and then we had to give a series of lessons over six weeks...... it was a good programme because the kids at 14, some of whom may already be having sex but others who were considering it, were able to talk openly with people who were not much older than themselves....i think this should be encouraged at most schools
3. yes we have a high teenage pregnancy rate, however it is not purely because kids are not taught about safe sex.....i know people from families where there are teenage mothers...and they have had it drummed into them that they should use protection...it only takes one lapse in sensibility for you to get pregnant and i am sure that most of the sexually active would admit to having been lapsed at least once

yes practising safe sex should be essential, but i do not see how this will be effected by sweden changing their laws to marriage from age of 18

Re: battle of the ages
15 is way too young to get married. People u fancy & go out with at the age of 15, u probably wouldnââ‚Ã⠀šÃ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t touch with a 10ft pole by the time u reach 20. The age to get married should stay at 18 (but I think this age is a little too young)

Re: battle of the ages
I just want to say that I agree entirely with Incognitas, good sex education is much more important.
BTW, up until just before WWII it was actually still legal for a girl to be married at age 12!

Re: battle of the ages
I'm surprised Kronas or someone hasn't started a thread about those channel4 teen sex programs.
