Question Terms and Conditions question...

i know people like these...

Say i had all three services.

Due to a telephone price rise, under section 20.1 the telephone service could be cancelled.

I.E. no telephone payments? but still have TV and Internet service.

I know NTL state you must have line rental with the tv service, but thats when you sign up.

I can not find this stated in the terms. If the agreement should be altered.

It says "if we increase our Charges you may cancel those Services in respect of which the Charges have increased"

Just a thought...

Re: Terms and Conditions question...

The base pack cost includes a line rental part.

You can have the line removed but the base pack cost stays the same regardless.

Re: Terms and Conditions question...

yep...
base pack price is stated as £11pm.
Plus the addtional line rental £10.50pm = £21.50, of which you must have when you sign up.
cancel telephone service under section 20.1
the base pack should be £11 as that is stated price.
can they then charge you for a service (telephone line rental), of which they have altered and you righfully cancelled under the agreement?

Re: Terms and Conditions question...

Hmmm,

They have changed the layout of the package. It used to have the TV and Telco parts together to avoid this kind of question.

As it stands I'm sure that its been passed by the Ntl lawyers to ensure its still legal for them to have TV and Telco bundled.

Re: Terms and Conditions question...

Cheers for the replies,

now moved to murky depths of billing eh?

Out of interest, spoke to customer services.

It seems like this is a "thats the way it is sir, is there anything else we can help you with?" question.

is there a particular department that could explain this?

i dont want to argue with ntl (as the customer rep seemed to think) i would just like to see this outlined somewhere...

Preferably in writing with my signature on it.

"There is a GOD!" Oh... ok then!

You could try the Responsetek tool on the front page of CF.

Re: Terms and Conditions question...

A good speedy responsetek, Well done NTL!!!

But.... the response was lacking

"The price of our basepack is £21.50 which includes the telephone line rental. I you only wish to have the television the price will stay the same.

However if you wish to just have the telephone service then the charges will be amended to an amount of !10.50 per month. All pour television packages are purchased from sky and that is why we advertise them the way we do. We understand this can be misleading but it does comply with off com regulations."

My reply:

Thanks for your reply, however I do not feel that my question has been answered fully.

I understand that your telephone service is sold with all your television packages. But having taken this option when signing the agreement for your services I have fulfilled your requirement.

You have made an amendment to our agreement by an increase in price of the telephone service; thereby have given consent for myself to cease this part of the contract under section 20.1?

Another point of note, as the use of Voice over IP becomes more accessible to the general consumer (I.E. more of your customer base) this problem will occur frequently. It is my understanding that sky are addressing this problem, as it more of a theft issue for themselves with their current viewing card \ call back service.

However this is where NTL as a company has an advantage. Please give users like myself a choice, I have a HDTV ready set, would take up a PVR when both these services are available.

I am very happy with the broadband and television services that I receive, but the one thing I won’t do is pay for a service I have no need for.

Free-view here I come?

Am i Being clear enough?
any other options?
Help!.... Anyone....
