Video games meet Religion and Politics
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6178055.stm
Quote:
A new Christian video game has sparked calls for a boycott from groups who say it is "training for religious warfare".
The game, Left Behind: Eternal Forces, is based on a wildly successful series of novels about the struggles on earth after true believers ascend to heaven.
Players can command the army of good - the Tribulation Force - against the anti-Christ's Global Community.
The game's makers reject criticism, saying their detractors "have a clear hatred of Biblical Christianity".

The Global Islamic Media Front has released a game called Quest for Bush, in which players aim to kill the US president.

Personally, While I do not like the idea of the religion game. I do not see much of a problem as long as people know what they are buying into. I cant see why a game cannot contain morals/messages of the creators wish as long as it doesnt promote anything 'wrong'.
There are many films promoting religion so I cannot see whats wrong with a game.
As for the terrorist game. I do have a problem with that, it is effectivly promoting the sense of anti-western feeling and promotes violence against real people.

The Left Behind books are awesome (repeatedly number 1 best sellers on the New York Times list, selling more than 50 million in series) and deliver an excellent message but I can't understand how they can bring this sort of game out without attracting stick

I think games about shooting our leaders, democratic leaders as opposed to terrorists, is slightly off-putting.

Frankly, I think any game that involves shooting someone resembling a known figure is off-putting. That includes Bin Laden btw, and I'm not a fan of him.
