Ntl Telco Line Rental Charge

I joined ntl in 2003, it ws advertising £25 for phone (including line rental) and broadband.

Today i received a bill for £66.97 which included 3 months of telco line rental (which i neva paid before), apparently this is monthly charge tht is in my contract and i should have been paying it since i joined in 2003.

but if i paid £9 and £15.99 (cant remember exact figures) for the broadband then that makes £25.

so if i had paid £10.50 from 2003 thn it would be £35 per month for bradband and telefone (including line rental) and not £25 as advertised and to which i signed up to.

Clearly NTL lied and misled customers in 2003 when i joined and now are back charging to last 3 months line rental.

Has anyone else had same problem? has anyone also joined for £25 a month n nt got charged for telco line rental?

What should i do? I was thinking of complaining to ofcom, maybe thy can help sort this dispute out.

Any views?

Re: Ntl Telco Line Rental Charge

This is now common practice by ntl.

According to ntl they've had the auditors in and identified customers accounts who weren't paying line rental.

I called ntl regarding this, as I also have not paid line rental for the past 3 years.

ntl say they don't do unlimited line rental period and back then it would have been for 12 months only.

Well I know and so several of my friends and family that line rental was included so ntl have lost half them (inc. me) as we refused to pay the back line rental on principle and disconnected our services and account and moved to adsl and bt.

I'm on my way back now to ntl after 2 months.

The cost of this to ntl is really stupid as they've lost a customer for 2 mnths and am now getting discounts as a new customer not to mention the cost of staff wages to disconnect and reconnected. Several calls to CS and the ntl guys coming out again after someone took it all away.

As usual ntl making things cost themselves more ...

Complaining gets you nowhere apart from a being s tep closer to banging your head against the wall in frustration at such incompetence from ntl.

Like I said I disconnected and reconnected - it costs them more plus spent hours on the freephone 0800 number trying to reason with ntl and their warped sense of logic.

They certainly know how to waste money - big style.
