Maybe getting Tesco BB
Ok, AOL contract ends in march and my dad will have to give notice in Feb. Now he picked up a tesco BB CD, and what im trying to do is find out the settings online to make it work with my BT Voyager 2100 router, but have failed. I think all i will need to know is:
The type of connection (eg pppoe)
Static or Dynamic IP address,
the rest i can figure out myself

If it's on the same line as your AOL broadband, you'll either have to "migrate" to Tesco's or the broadband will need to be cancelled with AOL and off your line and then reprovisioned with your new ISP, you can't just put in another broadband providers settings and hope it works.
To migrate you'll need to request a MAC (Migration Authorisation Code) from AOL, you can also only migrate to a service offering the same speed, e.g. 512 > 512, 1mb > 1mb etc, the whole process take's varying amounts of times, normally longer than a week.
You also have to make sure Tesco's supports incoming migrations (and that AOL allows outgoing) if not, then you have to wait until your contract expires, cancel your broadband, wait 5-10 days (possibly longer) until BT twiddle in the exchange, re-sign up with Tesco's then wait another 5-10 day's for activation.

Re: Maybe getting Tesco BB
Contact Tesco BB support? Might be the only way to find out the info you are after unless someone here uses them already.

That's "preparation" (being as you decided to be picky with someone's spelling in their anti-virus thread)
How are you planning to test these settings even if you do get them in advance of your migration/reactivation with Tescos?

I dont know exactly, i mean with AOL i already knew what ip type they used (in this case dynamic) and what sort of connection it was (PPPOE)

It sounds like you're wasting your time, Tescos (like pretty much every other ADSL provider) will no doubt send you out a letter after you've signed up detailing the settings for your router/modem.

Re: Maybe getting Tesco BB
*moving to alternative ISPs forum*
I would hazard a guess that Tescos use PPPoA and Dynamic ip addressing

Re: Maybe getting Tesco BB
1) Tesco use PPPoA.
2) IP addresses are dynamic.
3) You can migrate/regrade speed at the same time, especially as Tesco use something called Datastream. Lines are usually set to run at the highest speed possible, most of the time 2Mbit, and the speeds will be controlled by Tesco / ntl
Bif the process you are talking about is a cease / reprovide, the whole point of migration is that it doesn't involve any downtime, you get code from one provider and pass it to another and the process runs from there.

I was talking about migrations AND cease/reprovides, I know what both of them are thanks.
