hi i have a laptop and want to use a netgear wireless router as my connection just using my laptop i can get a connection but it is not secure it says it is open for access have tryed changing settings in advanced but then it will not connect plz help i am on xp

Are you trying to use a WEP key?

Set the wep key up in the router config (via the web browser) then save,

Then reboot the router.

Your laptop should find the router and when you click connect it should ask you to enter the WEP key .

it should now connect.
