New PIN no. for Modem

After a fun installation (phone, telephone, internet all installed but none working correctly from the start, but that’s another storey) I managed to get my internet working by using my old modem (NTL 120 Silver one I think) instead of using the new blue NTL 250 or 200?.

I tried installing the new one quite a few times but to no joy, went to Robin Walkers Cable Modem pages (v v useful) and found out that it wont register as the pin cust services give me is for my old one and this has already been used.

So does anyone know a good way or what to say to get a new PIN no. so I can start using my new modem.

cheers

Bloody good question m8... im sat here like a lemon waiting for my engineer to come with my new modem. My pin is almost certainly lost - plus I dont know it. Will I need a new one cause Im guessing judging by your problem I will.

You'll need to contact NTL, 0800-052-2000 and get your correct pin from them, they gave me this trouble at first, but guy on 'phone sorted it out while I was on to him

Manual Auto-Registration procedure

In order to complete the registration of your cable modem or set top box, and to register for ntlworld username and ISP services, make sure that your PC is using your cable modem connection (not dial-up), then launch your web browser, which must have JavaScript enabled. If your web-browser hangs or gives an error page when launched, this might be because it is trying to connect to a home page which is disallowed until you have completed this registration: just click Stop. Send your web browser to https://autoreg.autoregister.net/start.html (note the https rather than http) and follow the on-screen instructions. When asked for a Serial Number:
  • for stand-alone cable modem users, the serial number is ntl-ct8-cb485.
  • for digital TV set top box users, the serial number is ntl-ct8-cb487.

Re: New PIN no. for Modem

no, all I was told to do was enter the new pin he was giving me as I first set up the NTL250 modem, via the cd, and he waited on the 'phone to ensure the thing registerd Ok and everything was fine after that.
Since then, even after many system re-formats, you don't need to use the install/setup cd, the account is live always via the modem.

No new pin needed for me, as the engineer rang someone here and within 10mins it was flying on the net.

Good Job NTL (even if it took a while to deliever what I wanted)
