Re: help choosing a digital camera

How about explaining what you want the camera for? Quick holiday snaps etc or for a more serious use? The answers would be different depending on what you are planning to use the camera for I would think.

Re: help choosing a digital camera

So basically just occasional photos in various lighting conditions? Looking for a zoom?

---------- Post added at 10:01 ---------- Previous post was at 09:45 ----------

How about something like this:
Fujifilm
I would suggest using pricerunner to see what choices you have and maybe then ask people for opinions. At least that way you can see what cameras are within your price range and then if someone can suprise you with something that is currently on offer....

Re: help choosing a digital camera

I would reccomend the Nikon Coolpix camera's.
They have several quick settings so you can take quick snaps, or if you wish, set up for different situations.

The Coolpix 5600 camera is available for about £130.
Check it out HERE

Re: help choosing a digital camera

Go for the best quality that you can afford.
Another tip - try holding all the cameras in the store before buying, as I find some of the cameras on sale are too small and a little uncomforable to hold when taking photos.

And another thing - PC World have a good offer on the Kodak Z740.
Argos sells this for £249.99 .
PC World online has this on sale at £148 - and you can collect from your local store at this price.

Re: help choosing a digital camera

I have a canon a520 and I cannot fault it.

it is a very easy to use camera and it takes great pics.

I just wish I had better zoom functionality.

ik

p.s. DO NOT buy from MyDV.co.uk they are not a british site, and you pay more than they offer, just in case your search engine picks this up as a top link.

Re: help choosing a digital camera

Forget about digital zoom when looking at camera specs, photo manipulation software can do the same job. Optical zoom is the thing to have.

Re: help choosing a digital camera

I agree with ian@huth.
Optical will let you zoom closer. Digital zoom only zooms into the last possible optical zoom image and thus creates pixelisation, and can be better done on computer.
The optical zoom is the most important.
