email/website after leaving ntl?

I left ntl over 1 year ago after finishing uni and have continued to use my old email addresses and web space. In July ntl decided to reopen my account and bill me for no apparent reason. After trying since then to cancel the account again and get back the money that was taken (still waiting for the cheque ) my email and website stopped working a few days ago.

I did a quick check here and it looks like emails can't be reopened for 6 months. I'm with ntl again now, under my parents account, and tried to create the accounts online but couldn't. I rang ntl to see if I could transfer the old accounts to their account but the man said the email addresses had already been taken. I just tried to email the main account but it bounced back so appears inactive.

I would really like to keep these accounts, especially as I have an important job interview coming up and might have missed an important email.

What I would like to know is which is correct, the 6 months wait or the ntl man who told me to check online and try to register my other addresses (had 5) online asap so they weren't taken but I've now checked and I can't.

Also, if they are not taken, would it be possible to transfer them to my parents account?

Thanks

Re: email/website after leaving ntl?

Neither of the two things you were told were correct- If you old account is disconnected, the email account will now have been closed, but it is still "attached" to that account in the billing system.

You can get the email address back, but the process is rather complicated- Ntl need to reconnect the old account, reactivate the email accounts, then speak to both yourself and your parents at the same time to conform with the Data Protection Act.... The addresses can then be migrated to your parents account and they will remain active as long as that account does. Your old account can then be fully disconnected again.

Confused yet?!

The problem you have is that your chances of phoning ntl and getting someone who knows how to and has the access to do this are quite slim... good luck if you try though!!

Re: email/website after leaving ntl?

Thanks for the reply.

The problem with that is my parents have just gone on holiday for a week so it would have to wait till they get back.

As I said I have a job interview coming up and have been dealing with them by email and might have missed some messages and I also need to email them and would much rather use my old address as I don't wan't to use anything other than my name and they block hotmail and gmail where i have my name.
