Question 300kb to 1Mb upgrades

Anyone know when this is going to be enforced. And will it have the silly cap applied when it happens?

Re: 300kb to 1Mb upgrades

You will get a 3GB cap if you go up to the 1MB service.
This is unless you opot out, and keep paying the same price for a 300k unlimited conection.

Re: 300kb to 1Mb upgrades

personally I would upgrade to the 1MB service and download like mad until they downgrade me to the 512k service which is also unlimited and only £17.99p

512k better than 300k!

Well according to the last 40 mins chatting to CS i was supposed to be on 1MB anyway, but wasn`t. Then a very nice lady did some tests and bobs yer uncle.

Re: 300kb to 1Mb upgrades

Those 300k customers who chose to opt out of the 1Mb upgrade will be moved to 512k next week, with no download limit. They will continue to pay £17.99 per month.

Re: 300kb to 1Mb upgrades

I got it from a source within ntl. I don't know if it's been publicly announced, so I don't have a link, sorry.

Re: 300kb to 1Mb upgrades

What you are saying does make sense as I cannot see how NTL can downgrade high bandwidth abusers to 512k for £17.99 and at the same time leave responsible users on 300k for £17.99.

I was expecting a move by NTL to either reduce the price of 300k (no mileage in that one) or to up the speed to 512k. As it is NTL competitors and others have always been scathing about NTL calling the 300k service as a broadband service.

I was rather hoping that NTL might decide to put those of us on 300k to 1M and remove the ridiculously low CAP. However, that is probably wishfull thinking on my part.

Thank you for your quick response.

Re: 300kb to 1Mb upgrades

Are ntl at this moment in time able to know everybody's usage across the network?

Yes, but the information isn't easy to gather - it has to be done manually. An automatic process is in the pipeline.

Interesting, then, that there are NTL fliers in my area stating that "512K [sic] Broadband currently costs £14.99 per month". This is stated in support of the claim that £8.49 a month is saved when taking the £30 BB, DTV & 'phone package, so it must refer to a cable BB service.

Re: 300kb to 1Mb upgrades

The 512k broadband at £14.99 per month has a 1GB usage allowance. It is only available as part of a value pack, or when the customer also has a telephone line with a talk plan (such as Talk Unlimited). The £17.99 512k product has no usage restriction, and is available standalone.

Re: 300kb to 1Mb upgrades

Great news about your ntl Broadband service
You recently told us that the usage allowance of your Broadband service is important to you, so I'm delighted to tell you that we are increasing your service to an unlimited monthly usage allowance*. This means there are no limits to the amount of data you use every month. This is part of our ongoing commitment to provide the best choice & value Broadband service in the UK.

More speed, unlimited usage - same price!
We're also increasing the speed of your ntl Broadband service from 300K to 512K for the same monthly price! You don't have to do anything - we'll automatically upgrade your service by the end of December. Your monthly bill will also be changed to show Unlimited 512K, at the same monthly price of £17.99.

We hope you enjoy your new unlimited faster Broadband service!

Yours sincerely,

Bill Goodland
Internet Director

Above is a copy of an E-Mail sent to myself on the 17th of Nov. The only thing I had to do was opt out of the upgrade to 1 Meg. Hope this will clear up any confusion on this subject.
