More of the same connection problems

So Telewest put in cable TV this morning, and it's all connected up ok, or so I thought until I tried recording on my VCR.

Here's what I have:
TV: Panasonic TX-28PL10
2 x SCART sockets, (AV1 & AV2 unsurprisingly)
1 x aerial input
VCR: Daewoo Q812P
1 x SCART
1 x Antennae in
1 x Antennae out
STB: Scientific-Atlanta Explorer 4000DVB
1 x SCART labelled 'TV'
1 x SCART labelled 'VCR'
1 x Antennae in
1 x Antennae out
1 x Cable in
Console: Xbox
1 x SCART

I currently have the Xbox going straight into the TV AV2, which is nice and easy.

The other SCART is as follows:
VCR > STB > TV (as indicated in the back of the STB)

RF:
aerial > STB > VCR > TV

While I can watch telly fine, I can't work out how to record from the STB! I'm not trying to do anything fancy, just record a channel with decent reception rather than through my crappy aerial.

As far as I can tell, the only input into the VCR is through the RF input, since the SCART is only an output. I have read somewhere that the STB has a programmable RF modulator, but I can't get the VCR to see it's output.

Moreover, plugging the RF aerial into the STB has completely interfered with the RF signal into the TV. For example, when I select channel '0' for the VCR, there is so much interferance, it's unwatchable.

All help gratefully received...

PS I suspect it's just Telewest forcing me to fork out an extra £15 a month for the TVDrive stuff, but that to me is a waste of time!

Here m8 try this:

STB AV1 (To TV)
STB AV2 (To VCR input)
VCR AV output (To TV AV2)

Err....OP says VCR only has one scart and it appears to be an output only.

It sounds like the RF output of the STB may be clashing with something. If you disconnect the aerial from the STB, can you then tune the VCR into the STB output?

Re: More of the same connection problems

I did disconnect the aerial from the STB and put it into the VCR, and that did indeed clear up the reception issues for the VCR through its RF output. However, since I suspect the SCART in the VCR is an output only, I don't think the VCR will be able to see the STB at all! It's worth a try thought, that's for sure!

No, I meant disconnect the aerial completely and just have the STB fed into the VCR RF input. Try and tune the VCR to the STB on the RF input.
If you can see the STB input in this way then you do have a clash and we can see about changing the RF output channel on the STB.

Re: More of the same connection problems

TV RF > VCR RF out (then tune tv into the VCR)
TV scart 1 > STB scart 1
VCR scart > STB scart 2
that leaves your Xbox free to use TV scart 2 still

Re: More of the same connection problems

most videos with a single scart are input and output, try selecting the av1/ext1 on the video!! that should display cable.
