changed modem, now can't browse

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone on here can help me. We moved house this weekend and NTL came out on Monday to install the broadband and phone points. Previous to the move broadband was working fine.
As part of the install we were given a new modem and they took the old one back. We've plugged everything in but can't browse or get email. We can ping every site we try with 0% loss. Tried calling tech support but were told to reinstall Internet explorer which i'm sure isn't the problem as email also doesn't work nor does the opera browser and everything worked fine with the old modem. We tried running through the broadband installer CD thinking it was probably to do with that. It starts registering the modem then comes up with error 206 saying that a cable modem is already registered to this account and that we should call customer support. My husband tried that yesterday and CS told him he needed to speak to Tech support who told him they didn't know what to do and it was a CS issue.
I was browsing this forum yesterday and saw the https://autoreg.autoregister.net link so last night tried using that. It ran through and told us that the modem had successfully been registered and we should be able to browse the internet although email wasn't yet set up. We tried to browse but still just get page not displayed on every site we try. We also checked the servers and ports setup for email and they match the setting supplied by the autoreg but still can't get email. When we perform a test for the email it is able to connect with both the pop3 and smtp servers but doesn't get a reply.
Does anyone have any ideas because it's getting very frustrating being passed between departments especially as our phoneline isn't working (NTL engineer due this morning) so calls to customer support are having to be made from other people's phones or mobile.
I'd be grateful for any advice.

Re: changed modem, now can't browse

try...
opening the run command.
type "cmd" without the quotes.
hit enter
at the prompt in the window that opens type "ipconfig/renew" again without the quotes.
when this has finished, type "ipconfig/flushdns" without the quotes.
then try to browse?

Re: changed modem, now can't browse

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it didn't work. When trying the renew bit got 'error occurred while renewing lan access is denied'.
The flush ran through but didn't do anything.
Any other ideas?

IP address is 86.**.**.251
Do you need the default gateway as well or just IP?

Re: changed modem, now can't browse

Re: changed modem, now can't browse

Thanks guys. We're working again. The autoregister moving house link reset the account to accept a new modem then we ran through installer cd without getting an error and we're back online.
Thanks loads.
