Question Install disc?

Ok, i just ordered a ethernet card for the back of my P.C. i am using the USB right now, and i want to know once i get the card put it in etc etc,
will i need to use the install disc, the reason i am asking this, is cause when i installed the USB it said.

Step Top Box or modem, then..... USB or Ethernet

So i just wanna be 100% sure, if i need to or not use the disc, and i don't need to un-install the USB do i for the ethernet to work?

(i am STB if that helps) Thanks

Re: Install disc?

The install disk you used previously was to install the USB drivers. You will not need it for your ethernet connection. Just make sure you turn everything off, before connecting, and then reboot. As you are using a set top box, you may have to specify your new cards mac address by registering it. I'm sure someone will be able to confirm that as I connect via cable modem, not set top box and am unsure on that last bit.

Re: Install disc?

Ok, quick question, why does it ask you if you want to use USB or Ethernet, shouldn't it just ask to use USB and say you don't need the disc for Ethernet?
Kind of confusing.

Thanks for the fast reply as well.

Re: Install disc?

You don't need to use the disk if your using ethernet, but if you do, if will install extra software like broadband medic etc, it will also put ntl branding on internet explore(i think) and configure outlook express for your ntlworld email address.

Re: Install disc?

Ok, so the disc is useless more or less for the Ethernet, thanks for clearing that up.

Re: Install disc?

The only jobs the disk really does is put the drivers on for USB and configures yout internet conections (LAN settings etc) I think it asks you usb or ethernet so it knows if you require the drivers, its like asking PC or MAC (and yes I know it does not ask that question)

No no no, the disc is never useless, people always need drinks coasters Other than that use though I'm hard pushed to find a reason for keeping it lol
