Problems with my BEFSR 41 Router

Hi I just wondered if any one could help me with my problem. First of all Im with NTL on the 1 meg connection, and at present am on a proxy server. The router connects my PC to the internet, and my X Box( X Box Live Fan). The problem I have is that sometimes when I boot up my PC, it connecsts fine, and then sometime later when I use my PC I get the "Page cannot be displayed page come up". When it does this I dis connect the router and do a direct connect to my PC which is unsatisfacory. Im at my wits end here, It cant be my Ethernet cables because I went out and bought a pair of good quality ones, and the problem is occasional. Im wondering if having a proxy server is doing it. I thank you for helping me in advance.

Doubt if it's down to proxy servers, when it happens can you actually gain access to your router config screen? It could be the router locking up for some reason.

So when you lose the internet you can access the router config page? What does it give as it's status at that time? Also when it drops the connection what info do you get if you go to a CMD box and type
ipconfig /all

Re: Problems with my BEFSR 41 Router

this happens on my BEFSR41 sometimes, I find usually a release/renew of the DHCP lease will fix it, or if that fails, a reboot of the modem, router & PC is sometimes required.

Re: Problems with my BEFSR 41 Router

I had a simlar problem with the WRT54G router. I contacted Linksys and an update to the latest firmware sorted that out - hopefully there will be an update for the BEFSR 41 too. It's a known problem for Linksys

Re: Problems with my BEFSR 41 Router

If you haven't got a v3 BEFSR41 router, SoLo MaN, be careful what firmware you try if you're going to flash it. The ones on offer at their site all seem to be for v3 only.

Re: Problems with my BEFSR 41 Router

I have just done a check on my router, its the V3, and I have flashed it sometime back with the latest firmware. I just tried this, I read it in another thread on here and it worked, don't know if it was a fluke or what, I did this.

Switched on SACM, waited for all the lights to come on, then put switched on the Router, waited for the Internet green light to go solid green, then I switched on the PC.

Maybe this is where I been going wrong, I did not know that this how you switch everything on in a logical sequence. I will try it later and see. Thanks for your help guys, really appreciated.

Re: Problems with my BEFSR 41 Router

Linksys seem to have occasional phases where firmware is not fully backward compatible, then they fix this. Certainly the case with the WRT54G which the v4 firmware is now compatable back to 1.0
