...but unlike VOD, there is no prediction as to completion.
VOD on target for rollout to 600k customers by year end, largest of any
operator outside the U.S.
Remain on track for rollout to 1m
subscribers by close of Q2 and full rollout to
be completed by year-end 2006

Re: ntl posts third quarter results
bit short sighted tho, speed isn't everything. the 10mbit at what cost?
I thought ntl supposed to be in the black now, if they in the red how are they doing things like bidding for premiership football?

Re: ntl posts third quarter results
ntl are cash flow positive. They still make an operating loss (i.e., a loss on paper) because of depreciation and debt repayments. I think it means they don't pay corporation tax...

Interestingly, what they don't specifically mention in that glossy powerpoint file is that we now have over 100,000 fewer TV customers than in Q3 2004... Not very good for a cable company!

100 000?
Thats ****ting awful. But then again they made their bed versus Sky's marketing so they can lay in it. They can have the best PVR in the world but if nobody knows about it, whats the point.

thats rubbish so basiclly most of us wont get VOD till the end of next year, looks like the sky viewers will get it before most of us on cable

I also noticed on slide 18 that involuntary churn accounts for 1/3 to 1/2 of churn, what's involuntary, people moving off net, or NTL canning customers?

Sky will probably need to install more hardware to roll out VOD than NTL do, I can't see that being a swift task, they will also require those customers to go through a LLU BB unbundling, again a barrier to entry / disinsentive to switch. Part of Skys dominance is the fact that many cannot be bothered to switch to a different provider once installed.

Yep. Basically anything where the disconnection is not the customers choice.

hence they are lineing up a bid for homechoice who basiclly have all the hardware ready to go, you have to remember they are about as sneaky as they get Sky. and it makes perfect sense why set up a new system when you can intergrate an existing one buying easynet and now what appears to be a bid for homechoice points to a roll out of VOD

Re: ntl posts third quarter results
I would be surprised if a Sky acquisition of Video Networks (HomeChoice) passes through the OFT without being referred to the Competition Commission, which will delay the process by a few months - and I would not be surprised to see the Competition Commission reject the purchase.

No they have the technology developed. Sky would still need to aquire LLU space in the 1000+ exchanges they target, aquire the hardware, install it, test it, market it. Meanwhile NTL continues its rollout.
This will also be a fundamentally different way of doing business for sky (though not for pipex or homechoice), at the moment, sky has very little hardware and it is all contained in sky premises, this then uplinks to the Astra sat and is distributed to customer hardware. The DSL & Homechoice will result in lots of servers, network cards, routers and all that funky stuff being installed and going wrong in 1000s of exchanges across the country, far harder to manage.
