NTL with no box

In our house we have the NTL point plugged in directly to the back of the TV. We get several channels for free:
- BBC1, BBC2, ITV, ITV2, CH4, E4, CH5, MTV, CN (Cartoon Network), Challenge, BBCNews24, CNN, SkyNews, Trouble, SKySports1 and a couple of shopping channels.

SkySports1 free is my favourite :-) but anyway my actual question is; if I plug the NTL point in to either a freeview or NTL box what other free chanells will I get?

Main ones I'm missing are BBC3 and SkySportsNews that you get on freeview. The aereil reception is not that good here so I don't think it will pick up freeview, but do want these other two channels that I'm missing. Any ideas, advice or suggestions are welcome.

Does this sound like theft of service to anyone else? Plugging a freeview box in will have no affect and to have an NTL box on the network it must be registered to you.

I think the forum may have had similar discussion about the 'free' channels on NTL cable - it was even suggested that terminating the connection properly at 75Ω is better than the cable not being terminated at all.

You are right about the Freeview & STB situation, but I, personally, don't see what the OP is doing as 'stealing' - it will, presumably, only last as long as that connection is maintained in the street cab, anyway ????

For one I doupt it will happen as physical disconections no longer happen

But if you want the other two channels i have the solution

Sign up to NTL

BTW I did once have a Works Order to reconnect a customers 'aerial' that was just the TV connect to a NTL point that the engineer that installed BB 'Quite Rightly' Disconnect so seam NTL dont realy care

I have even had a fault call for a modem where the customer has gone into the omni and disconnected the modem feed to reconnect his free tv feed (Which i disconnected at install), Then phoned up NTL and said his Modem not working not thinking it gets stuck on me, Well he wont be doing it again after I cut the F off on the 'FREE' tv feed, and reconnected the modem (I could not leave both on due to distance from cab and full tack round leaving signal to low but anyway I ment to disconnect any unused feeds anyway and it kinda p**sed me of as I get judged on faults)

For some reason, some subscription channels are left in the clear on analogue.

When I first got broadband installed, I connected the feed to my TV just to see what was available. In my area I got Sky One & Animal Planet, along with the FTA channels.

Re: NTL with no box

NTL would class even useing the feed for off-airs as theft.I think we should all go quiet on this.

Re: NTL with no box

Another one of my friends who lives down the road in the area where I live gets SkySports1 for free to so I guess it just must be in the area. TV picks up SKyOne on a scan, but passes it because it is scrambled, same with a few other channels. Trouble turns to a scrambled porn channel late at night!

Can't afford to get NTL at the moment, too many bills already. I got a sky digital satelite too, but no free channels off it without a box though :-(

Thanks for the advice, that'll be me just sticking to what I got for the moment :-/
