4:3 no longer 4:3, all stretched to 16:9 and weird standby issue? anyone else?

Hello everyone
Over the last few weeks my cable broadcast has changed a bit..

The broadcast used to switch between 16:9 and 4:3 depending on what was being broadcast (on a widescreen telly) for things like uktv i had black lines at the left and right and a 4:3 image in the middle, 16:9 filled the screen. Now all 4:3 is stretched to fill the screen with all settings the same as they ever were on tv and box (an old pace one) - (with the exception of the new sky news but i think thats a different issue entirely!!)

I phoned TW support and the guy told me that the channel broadcasters must have switched off the signal to change the aspect ratio? somehow i dont think thats right, and if it was it would be affecting all TW customers.

At the same time as this the box now wont switch of properly, it used to power down completely and leave the default blue screen of the telly, now it just shuts down to a black screen thats being broadcast through the scart cable to the telly. Both started happening on the same day.

Has anyone experienced anything similer or have any ideas?

Don't know much about TW myself, but there are a few telewest users here so they will be able to tell you if they have been having similar issues....

Do you know any other TW users and whether/ not they have been having problems?
