Connection Issues

Hi

This is on behalf of a friend of mine who is having major issues and has been for 4-5 days. He's on 2MB and using a Wireless router to share the connection. Connection to PC from router is Excellent (always) and the router is configured correctly (and secure!). Last week, he began noticing that web pages were failing to load and header downloading from USENET was slow. Now the "Robin D Walker" speed test shows speeds between 200k and 700k if he's lucky. After phoning NTL tech support twice and being assured that his connection was 2MB (Which isn't being disputed - just the fact that it isn't behaving like 2MB) he's kind of disillusioned.

After advice from myself, he's removing the router from the equation but still getting issues.

I'm kinda hoping that somebody from NTL will pick this thread up and take a look. He's in the Bolton/Farnworth area (not sure of post code etc...)

I'll be looking at it tomorrow night so will have more info to post if neccessary.

Thanks

Re: Connection Issues

P2P software is installed but not active when the issues are prevalent. Spyware checks report nothing as with AV. As I said, I'll be looking at it tomorrow night and I'll grab some info from the SACM and check out the router config again. I'll also take the router off and plug the SACM into a NIC and see what the score is

Re: Connection Issues

The modem configuration should tell you for certain which tier you're on. For 2Mb, it should include: Maximum Downstream Data Rate: 2048000; Maximum Upstream Data Rate: 200000.

Of course, this won't tell you anything about how good your connection is, and hence what your effective speeds are. But it will tell you exactly what tier you're on.
