Intermittent connection problems Please help
Hey Guys
Over the last few weeks I have been experiencing connection issues with my line. trying to access sites I know are live gives me 'this document contains no data' they also sit there doing nothing when I try and follow links. sometime it will run ok but most of the time its a dead duck
I am in Northampton (nn1) and only have ntl for internet access I have one of the old school silver modems (with LAN + USB connections) I have that connected to a linksys drt54g wireless router (I don't use wireless and it is disabled on the router) the router has the latest firmware upgrade I have my machine and an xbox connected to the router. My pc is xp pro sp 2
my connection to the router is fine and the router has an 82.x.x.x IP address all ok
when pinging websites I get pretty much every 4th packet request timed out.
I'm pretty sure there is nothing wrong at my end as I have tried everything (full factory reset of the router, firmware upgrade, swapping nics in my pc etc)
I am on a 3mb connection
as far as I can tell there is no scheduled maintenance happening in my area and I don't think I'm due to be upgrade to 10mb yet
I hope I have covered everything in this post but I'm sure more info will be needed but if anyone can shed some light on the situation I will be very grateful,
Cheers
Matt

Re: Intermittent connection problems Please help
Try going to http://192.168.100.1/ and logging in with username and password which are both root.
then post back the power level & SNR readings that are there.

Re: Intermittent connection problems Please help
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...tml#ntlhmdiags have a look here for information- this has changed slightly after the latest firmware update to the modems, but it gives you an idea what you can find out.

Re: Intermittent connection problems Please help
I also live in NN1 area (abington) and have been experiencing similar problems for at least two months. Two calls to Tech support and still for often more than 8 hours per day the BB connection has >50% Packet Loss. Both times that I called TS they said it was an NTL problem, not my PC setup and that it was a very low SNR (20dB) in their network.

Re: Intermittent connection problems Please help
depends what the power and snr are... when you've had time to post them i'll have a look and let you know what you need to do
Have you spoken to ntl about this problem yet? If so, what did they say?

Your modem snr and signal levels are not the problem. The problem appears to be in the equipment and/or cable dealing with the connection between the dynamic IP addr and the next internal NTL connection (10.x.x.x). All TS are able to do is fill in a form reporting the problem. If when the problem occurs again (prob tonight 25th) more than one user reports the same problem happening in the same local area it might help someone at NTL to identify where the problem is.
