I'm confused. You want to know the make of your modem, when the link supplied is talking about settings on routers. The picuter you have posted is of a modem, not a router.

You shouldn't need to change anything in the ntl supplied modem setup.

Re: What is my modem?

I told you i'm a noob

I want my pc to run faster with certain programmes. & was told to do this i might have to open some ''ports'' on my pc. If not a router then a firewall i was told to find my ip type that in the search bar then enter some port numbers for that programme. it really confuses me. Because i'm on 1mbb it should be running much faster then it is, People say its down to port forwarding.

''It seems you aren't the only one with that equipment asking for solutions. I did a google for your mentioned equipment and got all sorts of hits.

What we can not do is tell you what you have in setup for your equipment without someone having that equipment here. We can give you sites that deal with this, such as http://www.portforward.com We can not tell you the ip to get into your setup. We can not tell you for certain without some sort of info from your side that you even have a hardware firewall.

This port forwarding thing is a very common issue with computer users. Probably at least 30% of the questions here deal with port forwarding in some aspect. There are literally thousands of makers of equipment that have hardware firewalls. Each and everyone of them have their own way of doing it and their own terms they use. To complicate matters even more, ISPs get in the act and can limit just what you do with the connection. Having the ip might well lead to a clue as to if it is the ISP that is your problem.''

Re: What is my modem?

There is no firewall on the NTL modem so no need for port forwarding.

Might it be your XP software firewall that is causing you problems?

Re: What is my modem?

Have you tried a simple speed test ( http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...speedtest.html for instance).

Also, do you think it is slow downloading or uploading. You won't be getting 1Mb in each direction, 1Mb download yes, upload is much lower, some thing like 128Kb or some thing like that

Re: What is my modem?

There should be a sticker on the bottom of the modem with the model number. Mine is an ntl:home 120.

http://192.168.100.1 is a good place to check your signal levels & service type etc. but I don't think it's a good idea to change anything!

The upload on the 1Meg service is 100kbps.

Re: What is my modem?

Yeah, it's the same for every cable modem (every NTL/Ambit cable modem, that is).

192.168.x.x addresses aren't actually internet IPs, they're local addresses - 192.168.100.1 is the 'site' which is hosted by the cable modem itself. The cable modem, in that capacity, is acting as its own little server.

Routers can do the same sort of thing, allowing you to change their settings.
