Dead? Switch to Npower instead...
BBC
Quote:
Energy firm Npower has sacked one of its sales advisors after a widow complained her dead husband's signature had been forged.
He was dismissed after the company investigated a forgery of John Sykes' signature some months after his death.
Mr Sykes' widow Lorraine, 39, of Fordham, Cambs, apparently discovered it after British Gas wrote saying it was sorry Mr Sykes had switched firms.
The salesman, who has not been named, could face prosecution.
Police said they would investigate if they received a complaint.
The forged document gave the go-ahead for Npower to replace British Gas as a power supplier to Mr Sykes' former home in Dewsbury, Yorkshire.
The transfer document is understood to have been signed in June - several months after Mr Sykes' death.

Npower have always been a bunch of crooks. They (and other power companys, powergen/British gas included) were suppose to have stopped tricks like this years ago. Very sad.

Re: Dead? Switch to Npower instead...
We had a British Gas salesman trying to get Paul to sign something a few weeks ago - even though the contract is in my name!
I HATE British Gas with a passion - they are the most inept company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with - they couldn't set up a direct debit for my payments and threatened me with baliffs even though I then offered to pay them by cheque!

Re: Dead? Switch to Npower instead...
We have powergen for electricity, british gas for gas. We also have a very similar address to another house and some postal code databases link us to that house by mistake
For a few years Npower had been claiming we were their customter, we final sorted that out, when powergen started charging us for the gas used by the other house with the similar address. It's taken multiple phone calls (each time we were assured they would sort the problem) to discover they exported their database and merged/lost our account with the other residence.
After all this were just going to leave powergen (formerly norweb) and get our electricity from british gas.
Rant over, in short: ban door-to-door salesman, ban telephone marketing.

Sounds like the same problem I had a few years ago, we got canvassed by Northern Electric, I said I'm not bothered thanks I'm OK with British Gas, he said OK no bother will you sign here just to say that I've acted within the rules? No problem I said, a few weeks later we had a letter from British Gas saying they were sorry we are leaving Sod this I got on the phone they said they'd received a signed letter from Northern Electric saying I'd signed for a change of supplier, I told them I'd not signed up for anything, British Gas said you'll have to change over because you've signed for it.
We got swapped over then phoned up to cancel it, it then dawned on me that I'd been duped into signing a contract, what the salesman had done was, he'd put a carbon sheet under the paper I was signing meaning that the paper I'd signed was a contract agreement under this paper. I refused to pay the bill when it came through, I got contacted by a debt recovery agency saying I owed them £200+ for a months supply of gas, I fought it and won thanks to British Gas who helped us along all the way they even offered to pay the £200 bill Northern Electric were billing us for.
These **** need running over with a big lorry, I now have signs on my door saying, we do not need Gas, Electric, religious advice, new windows soffits or fascias.

Re: Dead? Switch to Npower instead...
I had a similar problem with the Inland Revenue.. My dad died in 1999, and was self employed. They sent us letters, still addressed to my dad, but with the word "(Deceased)" on the end of his surname.
Still, Npower are still addressing leccy bills to my Mum, despite her being dead for over a year. I have been dutifully payng said bills, and have written to them asking for the account to be changed (even sending a copy of the Death Certificate) but when Npower mislaid a payment (I had paid at the post office and had a receipt), they refused to talk to me because I am not the named account holder.
After 5 hours (in total) of phone call, it was resolved.
People think NTL is bad.

Re: Dead? Switch to Npower instead...
It's not the firms, it's the sales people.
I've seen them the world over and they'll all sell their granny to reach their OTE.
Usually greasy smarmy individuals with bad suits, bad cufflinks and worse hair and nearly always sporting far to strong aftershave.
The think they can talk their way to anything, and unfortunately on some more weak minded people they can.
