Wiring ethernet sockets
Hello,
I have a wired network and have cabled my rooms with wires under the floor boards. The cable is ethernet and all I have to do is plug the connector into the backs of the computers in each room.
Now instead of wire in each room, I'd like to put on a socket on to the wall.
Am I right in saying that I will need these two things:
Is this the right tool ?
HERE
And then just a socket:
HERE
Mine would be single socket though.
However, could I use a double one for more than one connection. I'm guessing not?
Does anyone have experience cutting up the Cat5 ethernet cables. And is it pretty straight forward ? I've done phone extensions before so Im guessing they are all colour coded ?
Thanks.

Re: Wiring ethernet sockets
I'm not sure that this faceplate will take a standard plugged cable or whether you'll need to wire it manually.

Yes, you can use a double faceplate, but it will most likely require two cables.

Re: Wiring ethernet sockets
Yeah I'm assuming I'l have to wire it as just a back plate that could take a plug straight in, I dont think exists. I was just wondering how easy it is to wire.
Like are there any special rules to consider. I read once that the wires must not become untwisted.

Re: Wiring ethernet sockets
funnily enough i ordered 5 of those from cable universe the other week. they are standard punchdown connections, you don't need to spend £7 on a tool though... i used a flathead jeweller's screwdriver and it did the job fine
the punchdown connections on the rearside are all colour coded though

Re: Wiring ethernet sockets
I know of at least 3 standards for wiring up RJ45s. USOC for telecoms applications and T-568A and T-568B for data. And none of them seem logical to me (pairs on adjacent pins)!
What you probably want to follow is T-568B:
