ipod configuration help!
hello! i'm just trying to install my ipod onto my laptop the software ie, itunes is all installed ok but when i get to the configure stage and click on the onscreen instruction box flickers once then comes back up with the option to configure, i've tried two ipod usb cables in all usb ports but it wont work! the itunes library opens fine but obviously no ipod is showning in there! please help.....been trying for hours and getting angry!

Try WMP, my son had a problem with itunes but worked fine on WMP.

The windows media player, he uses the sync to drag n drop tracks to record mp3 to the ipod.

its not that that is the problem, the itunes is fine, but there is no ipod showingin it, it won't configure so there is nothing to drag onto!

do you definately have USB 2 ports, as IIRC the ipod will display similar syptoms to those that you have described if it is connected to a port that is only USB 1.0 or 1.1

I had the same problem - in spite of what Apple says, USB is badly implemented on iPod colour. If you have a firewire port, try that - I had no trouble after using firewire, and there are thousands of postings on the 'iPod' discussion group to support this. If you dont have firewire, get a firewire card and cable - your troubles will be over. Good luck

You tried taking iPod out of hard disk (or into hard disk) mode? Otherwise run iPod updater, this should force the computer to find it (and update the ipod is it is not)

indeed
file transfer is much faster with Firewire as well.

thanks guys, its working now, my laptop has 4 usb ports and it wasn't working in either of them, but it now works on one! i downloaded a coinfiguration update from the apple site, after a few installing and uninstalling dramas it worked! now i just have to upload all my cds again as it cannot connect to my old existing library...its on my old pc i no longer have access to! ahhh well i've done 7....this is gonna take a while.....
