Sky Stream to get Freeview channels added.

Sky Stream is to have DTT added to it:

Useful or pointless?

Useful if you are Sky. Saves a huge amount of bandwidth.

Obviously, as is anything added to a service you dont have - not really the point here.

Well, if you are on Sky Stream, not other forms of Sky.

Actually, on reading it more closely, you still have to plug an aerial in.
So not as useful as the headline suggests (which implied to me that you could just get the channels).

If the tuner arrangement is the same as they used with Now devices, somewhere close to pointless. It only offered now and next rather than a full EPG and didn't recognise LCNs.

Re: Sky Stream to get Freeview channels added.

The Sky Stream box was updated with the TV Input app in error and is being/has been removed. It should only be available on Sky Glass.

According to a comment from Sky on the https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.ph...-channels.html article

'Sky has confirmed to ISPreview that the Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT) function was briefly turned on for Sky Stream in error, but was quickly rectified and turned off again. This is partly related to the fact that Sky Glass already has the same feature and the two platforms share the same underlying Entertainment OS software platform.'

There's also a post by a Sky empoyee on the Sky Community https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Str...ht/true#M43701

'As some of you may have noticed, last week we enabled the DTT-App on Sky Glass as one of the default available apps, meaning it is now accessible without the need to disconnect your internet. However, as part of that update, the app catalog for Sky Stream was inadvertently updated with the same configuration, causing the app to become briefly available on Sky Stream. This was unintentional and has since been disabled. '

Re: Sky Stream to get Freeview channels added.

I see that the "broadbandtvnews" report mentioned above now has an update. It would be weird for an IPTV device to also have a DTT tuner, it makes sense as a fallback for Sky Glass. The elephant in the room here though is the puck having a co-ax socket. Hmmmm!!!

Re: Sky Stream to get Freeview channels added.

I don't know why it isn't being made available on Sky Stream, just as with Sky Glass, it's a useful fallback for when the internet goes down.

If you cease your Sky Stream subs, the box is pretty useless. Sky Glass on the other hand is a large TV, & can be used outside the Sky TV system if you choose to no longer subscribe. There are plenty of posts on the VM community forum from Sky Glass owners wanting to know if they can add VM TV in addition to Freeview.
