Sky Sports UHD - and colours....

I have 2 x TV360 boxes and Mega TV, so UHD Sky Sports

The issue I have is the colour - especially red. In UHD it is so dull, but on HD, it is really bright.

This is especially obvious with F1 (OK, so I hate Ferrari, but their cars really look bad in UHD). But its football as well - even the score bug is dull in HD

This is on both 4k TVs, and both boxes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks - Lee

Re: Sky Sports UHD - and colours....

Sounds like the tv HDR settings are not correct - make model(s)?

Hi Lee,

LG TV's have hidden system settings which can help fine tune the picture. The same is probably true of other makes too.

I have a couple of LG TV's. I find that with my C2 I prefer the picture if I turn on Vivid mode when watching UHD sports. We all have different tastes, others may prefer the picture produced when using Sports mode.

On the less expensive set (NANO766QA) the brightness/contrast doesn't give as good a picture unless I tweak it further. The following may also help with other manufacturers TV's

With some LG models try long pressing the Settings button then General > Additional Settings > Quick Start + If it's turned ON then turn it Off - apparently it affects the TV processing power and may help with HDR picture settings.

Also go to Settings > All Settings > Picture > Additional settings > HDMI Ultra HD Colour > try turning it On and OFF for the connected HDMI port (mine is set to on)

Back to LG TV's. You should also be able to bring up a hidden picture menu by going to Settings > All Settings > Picture > hover the onscreen cursor over Picture mode Settings and type in 1113111. You can play around with those settings (something similar should also be available on other makes of TV) There should also be an option under those settings to reset any changes you've made.

Try turning on BT 2020 color support under Colimetry and also under Mastering Color which is the one BT and BBC iPlayer use - this might make a difference

Also try the various options under EOTF (Auto, SDR Gamma, HDR Gamma, ST2084, HLG) Changing the Gamma settings may be especially beneficial)
