Use the cable you charge it with it may just show up as mass storage then copy and paste

When you plug it in you may get an icon saying charging with USB on the phone. Press it and select transfer files and it should show up as a hard drive.
You other option is to put them on Google Drive and just view them from the cloud. Added bonus of this is they are backed up

It’s just as Jaymoss says…
Here’s the Google support page about it.
https://support.google.com/pixelphon...ndows-computer

Option 2: Move files with a USB cable
Windows computer
Unlock your device.
With a USB cable, connect your device to your computer.
On your device, tap the 'Charging this device via USB' notification.
Under 'Use USB for', select File transfer.
A file transfer window will open on your computer. Use it to drag files.
When you've finished, eject your device from Windows.
Unplug the USB cable.

Can we ask why you’re copying photos to your phone? (as there maybe another solution)

Google drive is a good option as this backs up to the cloud and they are safe. You can then simply install the Google Drive app on your phone and they are always with you

I've got the laptop and phone pairing and I can easily import from the camera, I have tried dragging photos from my laptop to camera but it doesn't want to know.

Re: How to transfer photos from laptop to Google Pixel 4
If it's causing this much of a problem can't you just take a photo of the photos? Obviously the quality might suffer a little but by the sounds of it life will be a lot less stressful

Did that Jay says none of your files or folders match this search. I give up, far too complicated for me, thank you everyone for your help.

Re: How to transfer photos from laptop to Google Pixel 4
Lets try and do this in 2 stages
Open your web browser and search for google drive. Open the site and sign in with your gmail account you use on your phone. Upload your photos to there. Once you have done that we will move onto your phone

Re: How to transfer photos from laptop to Google Pixel 4
Just back them up to Google Photos, then you can view them on any device you are logged into google on. I have a Samsung Tablet, Phone and my PC all logged into the same account so I can see the photos on any of them (and the phone and tablet backup to google each day as well).

Email them to yourself, then when you want to show your friends just open the email?

I tend to just email myself the photos I need from my phone or tablet, so for convenience that's the way that works for me. If it's bulk, with IOS then I'd log in online with AppleID and get them that way from the cloud.
But using the cloud, either from Apple, Amazon or Google is the best way to go.
