Octopus Smart Tariffs

I thought I'd break out discussion of the Octopus "smart" tariffs into a new thread. Here are two of the more popular ones especially for those without Solar panels or EV's:

- Agile: https://octopus.energy/smart/agile/
- Tracker: https://octopus.energy/smart/tracker/

Agile is Electricity only whereas Tracker is both Gas and Electricity

Useful Apps & Sites:

- Octopus Compare (iOS)
- Octopus Energy Agile Watcher (iOS)
- Octopus Energy Watchdog (iOS)
- Octopus Watch (iOS & Android)

- Energy Stats UK

Re: Octopus Smart Tariffs

Prior to the energy crisis it was generally the advice that the agile tariffs are only worth it if you can shift the majority of your usage to night or have an electric car.

To some extent this is easy, you can set your washing machine and dishwasher to come on at night but people of course actually want to live during the day.
There were people deliberately shifting their meals to late night to try and safe money.

So my advice is to think carefully about your usage.

Re: Octopus Smart Tariffs

Using the Octopus Compare app, comparing Agile with the current Flexible (April 2023 v1) since we joined in May shows:

SVR: £552
Agile: £360

This is with some switching dishwasher/washing machine to non-peak hours.

What will be interesting is the Autumn/Winter/Spring where we should get more wind but more demand. Also, not sure how the Agile rate will respond to the recent small reduction in the SVR
