Escaping from Prison
So you are all probably aware of the story in the news about an inmate that has escaped from prison and is now on the run.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-66749354
If you were on the run, what would you do?
I think the first thing I would do is try and change my appearence, so shave my head, change into a different style of clothes, and then head up somewhere remote. I wouldnt want to stay anywhere built up as there would be too many cameras.
Head up somewhere like Scotland, and lay low whilst making my plan.
I'd have to leave the country somehow but think you'd have to study the boats and try and get on one without being seen.
What would you do?

Re: Escaping from Prison
That very much depends on what resources you have access to. Shaving your head and changing your clothes will help you disappear but won’t help you start a new life. And if you’re laying low whilst making a plan - as opposed to having some sort of plan in mind before escaping - then you’re at further risk because inevitably you’re going to be stealing stuff to stay alive.
I’m assuming you think Scotland is a good idea because of its low population density compared to England, however most of its population is in urban centres. Its lower overall density is due to its great swathes of barely habitable highland. Up there, if you’re around places where you can steal food or money you’ll draw attention to yourself very quickly. If you head out into the wilderness far from all human life, eventually you’ll die, unless you’ve had some pretty hardcore survival training. The man in question here might just have had some of that, so in his case, who knows.
To escape and stay out you need a significant cash stash - or access to people who really, really like you and will fund you initially, and access to people who can sell you a credible fake ID. Then you need to get out of the country and end up somewhere where that ID isn’t going to get too much scrutiny and where you can operate on a cash-only basis and use a mobile phone/walk past a CCTV camera without triggering an alert that will be passed to UK police forces.

Re: Escaping from Prison
You might actually be better off in a place like London where you might blend into the crowd and people don't pay much attention to each other. Still unlikely to work but if you're just a random guy that's appeared in a small area of the Highlands you're going to stick out a lot more.
I think you would need a lot of money to get out of the U.K., and Western Europe, right away. Ideally, you're in France before the authorities have even scrambled.
If you did have access to a lot of cash then I think you could probably avoid recapture in places like Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Somewhere with little cultural overlap. Maybe South America.

Re: Escaping from Prison
You can lie low somewhere like London but you would be lying very low indeed with your face all over the internet and every newspaper. There is CCTV absolutely everywhere. Again, there’s a difference between lying low and starting a new life, and to effectively start anew you need resources, and to have resources you need a stash in advance of escape and a means of earning a living afterwards.

Re: Escaping from Prison
I see what you mean about blending in and staying in a laregely populated area. I'm just concerned about cameras everywhere. You'd be bound to be picked up by one pretty quickly.
Help from others is going to definately help but the moment a cash reward is anounced, people might shift focusses and turn the person in. You would need to be very careful with who you can trust.
I think the person in question can't have left the UK with any normal ID as it would have been flagged straight away. There is either some fake ID being used or he is getting help to get out the country. As others have stated you need money to get you places. Or a bargaining tool of some sort.

The "Iranian spy" is either innocent or he will call his Iranian contacts/embassy.

I’d hide out in the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran. A mere 4.3 miles from Wandsworth Prison.

Re: Escaping from Prison
This interesting article with expert quotes discusses the subject. It sounds like the key thing is what support he has as this is mentally important.
Quote:
While food and drink are aplenty if Daniel Abed Khalife has stayed in London or travelled to another large city - the psychological challenges of being the subject of a nationwide manhunt could end up being his downfall, experts say...
As well as the practical support of someone giving him access to a change of clothes, food, money, or shelter, having someone to help him may also give him the confidence to go on the run for longer, according to Dr Robinson.
"Having help would reduce his anxiety levels. That social support and reassurance would make slip-ups less likely," she says. "That's going to make it a bit harder for police to catch him generally because he'll have more options."
|
The warm weather is seen as advantageous as he won't need to seek warmth overnight thus keeping him away from people and CCTV. And his military background will help him survive out of doors, particularly in wooded areas.
