Wills

A warning to everyone.

Make sure you have a Will and it is up to date for you wishes.

My brother died recantly and although he had updated his Will on his PC 3 times he never had a printout (or copy) that was signed except the first one.

Luckily we are a close knit family and we kook at his wishes over all the three unsigned ones he made but it may be more complicated when it comes to probte.

The issues with probate can always be overcome but it is better if you have an updated one to remove all doubt of what your wishes are, it make it so much simpler.

Re: Will

Or if changing your will seems a big issue and daunting then make sure to attach a codicil covering the changes.

Re: Will

I used this scheme last year for mine:-
https://www.willaid.org.uk/

In November, solicitors will do your will for free in return for a voluntary charity donation. They book up quickly, so get in early.

Re: Will

I've made my will easier by setting out exactly what should happen with a letter of wishes, that should make it easier for all concerned

Re: Will

I really need to look at making a Will. Who does everyone recommend to go with?

I'd probably watch out for will writers as opposed to qualified solicitors. I believe anyone can be a will writer, so although they charge less you may not be getting a water tight document.

Re: Will

Sort out a will and lasting power of attorney (LPA)

A lasting power of attorney (LPA) is a legal document that lets you appoint one or more people (known as ‘attorneys’) to help you make decisions or to make decisions on your behalf.

This gives you more control over what happens to you if you have an accident or an illness and cannot make your own decisions (you ‘lack mental capacity’).

Definitely - and you can do the LPAs online (except for the witnesses and signatures).

There are two sorts

Quote:
Health and welfare lasting power of attorney - use this LPA to give an attorney the power to make decisions about things like:
your daily routine, for example washing, dressing, eating
medical care
moving into a care home
life-sustaining treatment
It can only be used when you’re unable to make your own decisions.

Property and financial affairs lasting power of attorney - use this LPA to give an attorney the power to make decisions about money and property for you, for example:
managing a bank or building society account
paying bills
collecting benefits or a pension
selling your home
