Liberty Global has appointed investment bank LionTree to establish a joint venture business to build full-fibre networks to millions of British homes outside its existing network, according to multiple people with direct knowledge of the plan. The new company would compete with BT’s Openreach and new alternative networks...
The new network would be built using Openreach’s ducts and poles and increase competition in the telecoms sector...
The new project is separate to Project Lightning and could expand the Virgin Media footprint by an additional 2m homes or more in lower-population areas over time.
